Firefox 2 Beta 2 is now available for download. This is the fifth
developer milestone focused on testing the core functionality provided
by many new features and changes to the platform scheduled for Firefox
2. Beta 2 has an improved user interface and a limited version of the anti-phishing security protection feature that Mozilla plans for the browser. Beta 2 also has improved search capabilities, a spellchecker for web forms and new tabbed browsing capabilities. A release candidate for the browser is expected later this month, and the finished product should be available for users by the end of October. Firefox 2.0 has been delayed by bugs, and was originally planned for this month. Microsoft launched the first release candidate of its forthcoming Internet Explorer 7 browser last week, with the final version expected to appear before the year is out. Firefox has more than 10% of the browser market and Internet Explorer has about 85%. |
