Not surprisingly, the software requires Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser, a plug-in application, and a broadband connection to access the information. Users may also request a standalone version of the beta from the same site, although doing so requires registration and a download of between 75 megabytes to a full gigabyte, depending upon the applications selected. The online beta seems to be a trial of the full-fledged Office software, rather than the Office Live beta that went live in February. That collection of services is designed to remain on the Web as a downloadable, brwser-based application for small businesses. The applications included in the Office System Beta Test Drive are: Microsoft Office Access 2007, Microsoft Office Excel 2007, Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007, Microsoft Office OneNote 2007, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007, Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 with Business Contact Manager, Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007, Microsoft Office Publisher 2007, Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007, Microsoft Office Visio 2007, Microsoft Office Word 2007, Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 will be added soon, Micrtosoft said. |
