Klausner Technologies Inc. filed suit Tuesday for patent infringement against Verizon Wireless, Cox Communications Inc., Google Inc. and nine other technology and telecommunications companies. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, alleges that the use by the defendants of video voicemail in their products infringes on two of Klausner Technologies' patents. Klausner claims that the defendants used without permission the company's patented technology titled "Telephone Answering Device Linking Displayed Data with Recorded Audio Message," the filing said. Klausner's patents date back to February 1994. Klausner is seeking damages for patent infringement and an injunction preventing the defendants from making, using, selling, offering to sell or inducing others to make, use, sell or offer to sell video voicemail without its permission. The other companies Klausner is suing are Verizon Data Services LLC, Bell Atlantic Communications Inc., Citrix Systems Inc., Comverse Inc., Embarq Communications Inc., GrandCentral Communications Inc., LG Electronics Mobilecomm U.S.A. Inc., PhoneFusion Inc. and RingCentral Inc. This suit is the latest event piled onto Verizon's (Nasdaq: VZ) already heaping plate that includes a pending merger with Alltel Corp. of Little Rock and a rumored partnership with Google.
