Facebook is deploying "thousands" of Intel Xeon (5400) processor-based servers in its datacentre over the next year. Intel said the social-networking site tested and benchmarked a number of server platforms before ultimately deciding on the Xeon 5400. Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of Intel's Server Platforms Group, explained that Xeon processors will undoubtedly “play a critical role in achieving infrastructure efficiency”.
