ImageMicron Technology and Intel are now sampling what they claim to be the industry's first NAND flash memory built on 50 nanometre process technology, manufactured through IM Flash Technologies, their joint development and manufacturing venture.
Both companies are sampling 4 gigabit devices now, with plans to mass produce a range of devices from 2007. According to the two companies, the move to 50nm process technology will enable them to meet the growing demand for higher density NAND flash across a range of computing and consumer electronics applications such as digital music players, removable storage and handheld communications devices.

The NAND market is estimated to be worth $US13 to $US16 billion in 2006 and $U25 to $US30 billion by 2010.

Micron and Intel formed IM Flash Technologies (IMFT) in January 2006 to manufacture NAND flash memory products for the two companies.  Its facility in Lehi, Utah is expected to be online producing NAND early next year. Meanwhile current production is being supplied by Micron.
