Even though many reviews agree that Safari 3.1 makes a great browser for Windows, Apple was recently raked across the coals
for pushing the browser via its Software Update application, included
with QuickTime and iTunes for Windows. Today Apple has posted an update
to Software Update for updating software updates. Got that?
Apple's Software Update 2.1 for Windows has added a "New Software" category, and will list any Apple software for Windows that is not already installed in this separate category from other updates. It does still leave Safari checked for download by default. Still, Software Update won't trigger when updates are posted for software you don't already have installed. So far, the update is only available via Software Update and not from Apple's Downloads page. The changes that Apple has made, though, should hopefully answer the criticism over pushing Safari. |
